Collaborative Artwork and Studio Show!

Exciting news! Joel has gotten together with internationally published painter Steve Stento to do a joint project. The mixed-media piece is part photograph, part watercolor and part oil painting! It is definitely a one of a kind piece from two great artists. Steve and Joel have been talking for years about trying to do some collaborative artwork and it finally came together.

Come to Steve Stento's studio in Anthem Saturday April 17th from 12-4pm to see it as well as a collection of their individual works.

Click here to see Joel's work, click here to see Steve's work.

Please contact us for directions.

Hope to see you there!

Preparation

For the last few days, I’ve been mapping out our first week in Provence this May. We will visit every stop on our September photo tour before heading to Tuscany. Here are a couple snapshots I took the last time we were in Provence- both in towns we will visit on our tour.

We’ve also been choosing the mouth-watering menus for our Tuscany trip this May. We put a lot of work into all of our workshops, so our clients don’t have to. Join us and find out!

Check out our current schedule here.

Scouting in Vermont!

I just got back from a week in Vermont figuring out our routes for the Fall Color in Vermont workshop. I checked out my favorite covered bridges, small town churches, vistas and farms. I think it's beautiful year round, but stick season isn't the most photogenic, so here's a photo I took last fall...

More exciting to me- my sister had a baby in February so I did more than scout! I met my adorable new 7 week old nephew! So here's a photo of Nicolas with his favorite new sunglasses.

We'll have more details about the Vermont workshop on the website soon! In the meantime, feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We leave for Europe May 1st...

Ciao for now.

A Beautiful Day in Scottsdale

Our one-day Basics workshop went well- we had beautiful weather! We have 2 more workshops scheduled before we leave for France/Italy. April 9-10 we're giving a great workshop to organize your digital life so you can finally find all your photos on your computer (in Scottsdale). April 24-25 we're giving our print workshop so can learn how to make your own exhibition quality prints (at our studio in Flagstaff).

If you or someone you know know is interested in either workshop, let us know! We'll be happy to answer any questions. See our website for more information...

Tuscany is getting closer!

This week we've been busy making airline, hotel and car reservations... We leave for Europe in early May. We'll spend a week in Provence to do some more scouting for our September workshop, then head to Tuscany for our workshop. We've got a great group of people signed up- we're very excited to have another great trip!

We do still have a couple spots open if you know anyone interested. We have a great incentive program for referrals on our overseas workshops- a free framed photograph for every referral who signs up! And our $500 off per couple, $250 of per person is still good, so act fast!

Visit our website for more details on any of our workshops!

Ciao for now!

Architecture Photo-op

We were lucky enough to have our 12 year old nephew come out to Arizona (from Vermont) to spend a week with us. One of the many places we visited was Taliesen West, a Frank Lloyd Wright estate in Scottsdale. Very cool buildings- and I was pleasantly surprised that my nephew was just as excited about it as I was.

Here are a couple photos I took while there, definitely not the best light as it was gray and rainy, but a very interesting place to go if you're into architectural photography. Try to go near sunset and you could get some beautiful photos!

Sunrise Crater?

Here are a couple photographs I took this morning on our sunrise scout of Sunset Crater for a client... Beautiful morning light and so cool (literally and figuratively) with the snow on the black lava!

The Superstition Mountains

We just got back from a camping and shooting excursion to the Superstition Mountains, a beautiful wilderness area east of Phoenix metro. Apparently panning for gold is still a popular recreational activity here as we met several people on their way to do just that! They also told us that it rarely ever pays for itself, but I guess that's what hobbies are- something we do for fun!

There is ample water in the area, especially considering its location in the middle of the desert! According to our map, natural springs dot the landscape. And I don't think I've ever seen so many large saguaros. Here's a photograph I took along the road. We plan to go back in the spring when this hillside will be filled with flowers!

New Additions

Now that we've finally dug out from our series of winter storms- after nearly 5 ft of new snow in a week- we've begun updating our workshop calendar. We have some new additions that I think will interest many!

We've added another Digital Photo Basics- Scottsdale workshop (March 13) because we filled the other one and had several people on a waiting list. We've also added another Digital Workflow class to organize your photographic life in Scottsdale (April 10-11), rescheduled our Printing workshop (April 24-25), which we had to cancel due to the record breaking snow here in Flagstaff, and we added a new shooting workshop in Flagstaff this summer (June 11-13)! Please check the website for details.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Below is a photo I took when I snowshoed to the neighbor's house (which was the only way to get there!) The San Francisco Peaks were just starting to "peak" through the clouds!

"Landscape Interrupted"

Joel has two pieces in the upcoming show at the Coconino Center for the Arts called "Landscaped Interrupted," featuring images that depict the human effect on the landscape. See his schedule for more details on the exhibit. There is also an article in Flag Live about the exhibit and one of his photographs is featured in one of the essays.

It will be a fun exhibit for those of you who are local!
